PCR tests are also known as rtPCR, real-time PCR, qPCR, etc. Read on and find out all the information you need to perform your PCR test in Puerto Vallarta.
Coronavirus tests; which Covid test should I get?
Before making an appointment or getting your Covid-19 test, it is crucial to know which type of test is the right one for travel. Consequently, it is important to be aware that there are several types of coronavirus tests available. However, many of these tests are not suitable for detecting an active Covid infection.
For example, a Covid-19 antibody test will not be suitable to detect active Covid-19 infection.
- Antibody tests: This test, also known as a serology test, aims to detect a certain type of antibody called immunoglobulin G. A Covid-19 antibody test is useful to check if you have had coronavirus. However, the diagnosis of a current Covid-19 infection should not be based on this test.
Likewise, a Covid-19 antigen test may or may not work.
- Rapid antigen tests: this lab test is an immunoassay that detects the presence of a certain viral antigen. Consequently, an antigen test is suitable, in most cases, to detect a viral infection (such as coronavirus).
