Dr. Francisco Gonzalez Avelar is a General Physician and Surgeon who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Guadalajara. He has a specialty in Gynecology and Obstetrics from the Hospital Civil de Guadalajara Juan I. Menchaca. Later, he concluded a subspecialty in Gynecologic Oncology at the Jalisco Institute of Cancerology. Also, he has training in Gynecological-Oncological Surgery and Obstetric Ultrasound. Equally important, he likes to stay updated on important subjects of his area of specialty, hence, his constant attendance to courses. Dr. Gonzalez Avelar is certified by the Mexican Council of Gynecology and Obstetrics and by the Mexican Council of Oncology A.C.
Also, he is a renowned gynecologist in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit for specializing in Women’s Cancer. He has diplomas in Colposcopy, Pathology of the Female Lower Genital Tract, and the Human Papilloma Virus. Currently, within his practice in Gynecologic Oncology, he specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of women’s cancers: Breast Cancer, Cervical-Uterine Cancer, Ovary, Endometrial, Vulva, Vagina, Neoplasia, and Gestational Trophoblastic Disease GTD. Gynecologic Oncology Surgery
Surgical diagnosis and control of cervical cancer, breast cancer, fibroid, ovarian cancer, vaginal and vulva cancer.
Mastectomy
A mastectomy involves the surgical removal of one or both breasts for women with invasive breast cancer.
Cervical Biopsy
A cervical biopsy is a procedure where a small amount of tissue is removed from the cervix to diagnose cancer in the endometrium or cervix. Is usually done after an abnormality has been found during a routine pelvic exam or Pap smear.
Colposcopy
A simple procedure that allows your doctor to examine your cervix. Is used to find cancerous cells or abnormal cells that can become cancerous in the cervix, vagina, or vulva.
Cervical Dysplasia
Cervical dysplasia is a precancerous change in the lining cells of the cervix. Likewise, it is also the precursor to cervical cancer. The cause is HPV (Human Papillomavirus).
Pelvic Ultrasound
A noninvasive diagnostic exam that gives a quick visualization of the female pelvic organs and structures, including the uterus, cervix, vagina, fallopian tubes and ovaries.

First appointment | Your first gynecologist visit with Dr. Francisco Gonzalez Avelar, MD. will be like any other doctor’s visit. He will ask you about your general health, your menstrual cycle, and sexual health. Moreover, he will make a general physical exam, where your height, weight, and blood pressure will be checked. Similarly, an external genital exam. You usually do not need to have a pelvic exam at the first visit unless you are having abnormal bleeding or pain. |
Complete Checkup Package | During a complete checkup with Dr. Gonzalez Avelar, MD. firstly, he will make a physical exam. Afterward, he will continue with a pelvic exam, where he will examine the outside of your vagina (vulva and vaginal opening), and your reproductive organs. You might feel some pressure during this exam, but it shouldn’t be painful. In addition, this package includes a Pap smear, and a breast exam, where he will check for any lumps or other abnormalities with your breasts. |
