Types of surgery by technique

Open surgery

The traditional approach: a larger incision gives the surgeon direct access to the area being treated. Still the best option for certain complex procedures.

Minimally invasive surgery

Performed through small incisions with specialized instruments. Generally means less pain, smaller scars, and a faster recovery than open surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery

A type of minimally invasive surgery that uses a camera (laparoscope) so the surgeon can see inside the abdomen or pelvis without a large incision. Common in general, gynecological, and bariatric surgery.

Robotic surgery

Minimally invasive surgery assisted by a robotic system, giving the surgeon greater precision and control. We currently offer the ROSA® system for knee surgery.

Your surgeon will recommend the most suitable technique based on your diagnosis, your anatomy, and your overall health — not every technique applies to every procedure or every patient.

Your surgical journey, step by step

Before your surgery

Your surgeon explains the procedure, its risks, benefits, and alternatives, and answers your questions before asking for your informed consent. We also coordinate your pre-operative studies (labs, imaging) and your anesthesiology evaluation.

The day of your surgery

You’ll arrive with clear instructions on fasting and medication. Our operating room and anesthesiology team supports you throughout the procedure, with the same level of care regardless of the technique used.

After your surgery

You’ll move to recovery under observation, and to the Intensive Care Unit if your case requires it. Before discharge, your surgeon gives you clear instructions for your recovery at home and schedules your follow-up appointment.
