What to do if you have a travel medical emergency
An emergency away from home brings a different kind of stress: on top of the medical urgency, there are questions about language, insurance, and who to call. You’re in a country where Hospital CMQ provides emergency care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Follow these steps if you or someone in your group needs immediate care:
Steps to follow
- If there’s any risk to life, go directly to the Emergency Room at the nearest location — you don’t need to call first.
- If you can call before heading over, contact the nearest location so the team is ready when you arrive.
- Have your ID, passport, and, if possible, your travel insurance details on hand.
- If you’re traveling with a group, have one person talk to the hospital while another stays with the patient.

What does my travel insurance cover?
Every travel insurance policy is different: some cover emergency care in full, others require prior authorization, and some only reimburse you after you pay.
You don’t have to sort this out alone. Once you arrive, our team reviews your policy details with you and explains, in your language, what information we need to move forward.
Message us on WhatsApp with your travel insurer’s name and we’ll tell you what’s next.
How does Hospital CMQ help with my insurer?
Whenever possible, we bill your travel or health insurance directly, so you don’t have to pay everything upfront. If your policy requires reimbursement instead, we give you all the English-language documentation your insurer needs.
If your insurer requires prior authorization, we can help you contact them while you’re receiving care.
This page does not replace your travel insurance policy; always confirm coverage and exclusions directly with your insurer before you travel.
